One of the hottest names in the class of 2024 received an offer from the UNC basketball program earlier this week and it’s one that could have a big impact on his recruitment.
[autotag]Trentyn Flowers[/autotag], picked up an offer from the Tar Heels to add to his nearly 30 offers. Other programs involved heavily are Oregon, Michigan, Memphis, Oklahoma, Texas, Duke, Maryland and Kansas.
According to Rivals national recruiting director Rob Cassidy, the Tar Heels’ offer ‘impacts the recruitment’ of Flowers.
“Flowers will play his junior season for Combine Academy, which is based in Lincolnton, N.C., 150 miles away from UNC’s Chapel Hill campus. Expect the Tar Heels to still be standing when the touted Flowers trims his list next month, but they’ll have a fight on their hands.”
It was announced earlier this week as well that Flowers would be narrowing his list to six schools on October 13th. Obviously, with UNC’s late arrival to the recruitment, there is no sure bet they will be on the list, but it seems likely.
Flowers is ranked No. 6 overall in 2024, the No. 2 small forward, and the No. 1 player in the state of North Carolina per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
Flowers previously described what he’s looking for out of a program.
“I want a coach who can build a great relationship and who is going to mentor and develop me. I want a coach I can look at as a father figure or something more than just a coach. That’s all I really ask for.”
This is one recruitment to follow closely as his cut-date approaches.
