After Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin does his weekly press conference on Tuesday, Steelers president Art Rooney II will hold a special press conference of his own. According to the team, Rooney is planning a “special announcment” which got us thinking about what it might be.
What are some likely reasons the team president would be talking to the press less than a week before the start of the season? Maybe the team is planning a new remodel of the newly-named Acrisure Stadium. Or it could be related to one of the many social justice and community initiatives the Steelers organization are a part of. It could also have something to do with a schedule of special events at games or something related to alternative uniforms.
Less likely is Pittsburgh is planning to go ahead and retire Ben Roethlisberger’s No. 7. This is a theory I’ve seen floated by fans and while I am fully on board with this, it feels a bit rushed considering Roethlisberger just retired a few months ago.
