USC doesn’t have Caleb Williams on defense. The Trojans can only use him on offense and benefit from his skills on that side of the ball. While the defense’s lack of elite personnel will bring about some noticeable limitations which will exist throughout the year, the Trojans are simply going to have to max out on offense in 2022.
Know what? They can.
With Lincoln Riley, a Cadillac coach, guiding Caleb Williams and other genuine offensive stars, this offense is going to be so difficult to stop. Keeping USC under 40 points is going to be a heavy, heavy lift for every defense other than Notre Dame or Utah.
The USC defense is a whole problem right now, but the offense will usually be good enough to overcome that problem. To that extent, this season opener wasn’t hugely shocking.
