Stephen A. Smith savagely ripped the Knicks for passing on Donovan Mitchell: ‘Nothing ever gets done in New York’

Stephen A. Smith is tired of the Knicks

It’s been a rough summer for Stephen A. Smith as far as his Knicks are concerned.

Back in April, he needed to be consoled on draft night because — let’s be honest — no one had any idea what the Knicks were doing at the time. And, to their credit, they did the right thing in bolstering their future draft picks so they could eventually make a trade and land a superstar in New York.

Everyone expected them to do just that with Donovan Mitchell. They didn’t — the Cavaliers did. The Knicks weren’t necessarily wrong to pass on adding a star player at such a high cost, but let’s be real. Fans saw they had an opportunity to get better immediately and they passed on it.

It’s not shocking everyone roasted them. It’s not shocking fans are disappointed. One of those fans is Stephen A. Smith.

In the aftermath of the Cavaliers’ trade, Smith posted his reaction to Twitter. And, well, let’s just say it wasn’t the most glowing review of the Knicks’ offseason moves so far.

“So once again, we going to go into another season and the New York Knicks are devoid of a star. They’re somewhere other than a New York Knicks uniform…They make me sick. Nothing ever gets done in New York with the Knicks. Nothing. Nothing…It just never ends with the Knicks.”

Yeah, he’s not happy. And it’s understandable, honestly. Mitchell is an All-Star and the Knicks need talent. This is a move, usually, you’d see teams making.

But the Knicks chose to be shrewd here and it might pay off in the long run. We’ll see. Stephen A. Smith and the rest of the Knicks fans will have to be patient enough to find out.
