Former Boston big man Daniel Theis makes German National Team for EuroBasket play

The former Celtics center was a late call due to injury concerns.

Daniel Theis was initially feared by Germany to be out for the quadrennial EuroBasket competition taking place in four locations across Europe. However, the former Boston Celtics big man has been cleared at the last minute, according to new reporting from Eurohoops.

Theis joins a fairly stacked German team that includes former Celtic Dennis Schroder and Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner. Magic big man Moritz Wagner — another former Celtic — did not make the team.

Per Eurohoops, Germany has one more player to cut, but it seems fairly likely neither Schroder or Theis will be that player, health willing.

Slated to complete in Group B for EuroBasket play in Cologne, Germany, Theis and the rest of the German team are in one of the toughest groups. The group contains defending EuroBasket champion Slovenia, Olympic silver medalist France, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lithuania and Hungary in addition to Germany.
