Colts acquire LB Grant Stuard, 2023 draft pick in trade with Bucs

TRADE! Colts acquire LB Grant Stuard and a 2023 draft pick from the Bucs.

The Indianapolis Colts traded a 2023 sixth-round pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for linebacker Grant Stuard and a 2023 seventh-round pick, the team announced Tuesday.

This comes as a bit of a surprise considering the Colts seemed to be pretty deep at linebacker, but general manager Chris Ballard has never been afraid of making a low-key trade on cutdown day.

Stuard was a seventh-round pick for the Buccaneers in the 2021 NFL draft. In fact, he was “Mr. Irrelevant” as the 259th and final selection in the draft.

A product of Houston, Stuard appeared in all 17 games for the Buccaneers during his rookie season but made just one start. He made a heavy contribution on special teams, playing 65% of the snaps in that phase of the game.

Stuard led the Buccaneers in special teams tackles and has been lauded for his presence as a teammate.

With the acquisition of Stuard, there may be only one more spot available in the linebacker room.
