Colts release RB Phillip Lindsay

The Colts are releasing RB Phillip Lindsay.

The Indianapolis Colts are expected to release running back Phillip Lindsay ahead of Tuesday’s deadline to reduce the roster to 53 players, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

This comes as a pretty big shock considering almost every analyst and beat writer covering the Colts thought Lindsay was in the clear lead to hold the No. 3 running back job.

With Lindsay expected to be out of the picture, it will be interesting to see how it impacts the rest of the 53-man roster. The Colts very well may go into the first week with just three running backs if they are trying to save room for someone like Sam Ehlinger.

The move to release Lindsay likely stemmed from his lack of contribution on special teams, which is a role the Colts like their third running back to play.

That third running back spot is now likely to be between Ty’Son Williams, Deon Jackson and undrafted rookie D’vonte Price.
