The New Orleans Saints waived wide receiver Kevin White from injured reserve with an injury settlement, per the latest update to the daily NFL transactions wire. White, a former Chicago Bears top-ten draft pick, arrived in New Orleans back in August of 2021, and bounced back and forth from the active roster and practice squad.
White appeared in six games with the Saints last season and had one catch for 38 yards. He made frequent appearances on special teams, playing 44% of snaps in the kicking game and accruing four tackles. This year he was making real progress in that role and was the top gunner on punt coverage across from All-Pro ace J.T. Gray prior to his injury.
There were a ton of people rooting for White to make a name for himself in New Orleans after injuries derailed his once very promising career. He flashed in practice at times, and could find himself on another NFL roster soon.
With White now out of the wide receiver battle, the focus will go to Marquez Callaway, Kirk Merritt, Tre’Quan Smith, and Dai’Jean Dixon as fans will wait to see who earns their spots on the 53-man roster. Rosters must be cut down on Aug. 30.
