We’re entering a different world in college football. Like professional athletes, amateur ones can now profit off their name, image and likeness without facing ineligibility from the NCAA.
The result has been quite a heavy market for some of the top players in college football. Some even have NIL valuations in the seven figures.
[autotag]Kayshon Boutte[/autotag] could be one of those players, and in On3’s breakdown of its top-10 NIL valuations heading into the 2022 season, the star Tigers wideout came in at No. 10. His valuation is set at $1.4 million, the same as the No. 9 selection in receiver Jordan Addison, last year’s Biletnikoff winner and one of Boutte’s counterparts on the preseason First Team All-American list.
On3 NIL Valuation: $1.4 million
Position: Wide Reciever
On3 Impact 300 ranking: No. 16When Kayshon Boutte went off for an SEC-record 308 yards against Ole Miss in the final game of the 2020 season, he was quickly tapped as the next face of LSU‘s offense. His season was cut short last year, however, due to a broken ankle. He’s still coming off multiple surgeries, yet he will be the top wide receiver in the SEC this season. He considered transferring to until some NIL activity ramped up around Baton Rouge. He signed a deal with Gordon McKernan, the injury attorney who has become a big-money donor at LSU. He’s now locked in with the Bayou Bengals. Boutte can cash in this season — a major reason why he has a massive On3 NIL Valuation — if he can stay healthy and perform at the SEC level.
As mentioned by On3, there’s some projection involved with Boutte, who was on pace for a fantastic season last fall before the ankle injury ended his campaign six games into the year. If he can stay healthy, he’s expected to be one of the top receivers in college football and is widely expected to be an early first-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft.
But it seems Boutte may be able to take advantage of the profile he’s built up and make a bit of cash in the meantime during what should be his final season in Baton Rouge.
