The Green Bay Packers must have the roster down to 80 players by Tuesday, so general manager Brian Gutekunst got started on Sunday. According to Aaron Wilson of PFN, the Packers released rookie Chauncey Manac.
Manac (6-3, 246) is an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana.
Over two preseason games, Manac has played 32 snaps. Per Pro Football Focus, he has created three total pressures as a rusher, including a sack for no gain on Saturday night against the Saints.
A Georgia transfer, Manac produced 33.5 tackles for a loss and 19.5 sacks over 46 collegiate games. In 2021, he was named an All-Sun Belt player after finishing his senior season with 14.5 tackles for losses and 10.5 sacks.
Expect a few more cuts over the next two days. All NFL teams must have their rosters down to 80 players by Tuesday afternoon, and the Packers – after cutting Manac – are at 84.
The Packers still have a fascinating but ever-changing competition playing out at edge rusher behind starters Rashan Gary and Preston Smith. Ladarius Hamilton, Jonathan Garvin, Tipa Galeai, Kobe Jones and rookie Kingsley “JJ” Enagbare give the Packers five outside linebackers to evaluate over the final week of training camp and the preseason finale in Kansas City. All five have flashed, but it’s possible two or three roster spots are still up for grabs at the position.
