Larry Fitzgerald is a sure-fire future Pro Football Hall of Famer. There’s no doubt that many current Notre Dame players grew up watching and admiring him. So it had to be a thrill for them when Fitzgerald came in and spoke to the team. Here is some of what he said:
“Playing for a tradition that is unmatched and unquestionably the best in the history of college football. That is so very special. You guys have the ability to write your own script this year.”@LarryFitzgerald #GoIrish pic.twitter.com/GWG9ob42jP

It’s a little surprising to see Fitzgerald speak to this group considering he has no prior connections to Notre Dame. What’s more, the two games he played against the Irish for Pittsburgh as part of a home-and-home in 2002 and 2003 were very forgettable for him. In a pair of Irish victories, he accumulated only 83 and 79 receiving yards respectively. While he did score the Panthers’ only two touchdowns in the latter contest, it was not enough.
Whatever the reason for Fitzgerald speaking, it’s nice that he took the time to do it. The players undoubtedly will remember it for the rest of their lives. Now, it’s time for them to take his words to heart.
