The HBO series “Winning Time” may have been a hit in terms of ratings, but it has been polarizing.
Many, in particular members of those Los Angeles Lakers of the 1980s, have criticized the series for being inaccurate and hugely dramatized. For those who value facts over entertainment, another forthcoming series is focused on the rich history of the franchise.
On Aug. 15, the streaming platform Disney+ will release “Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers,” a 10-part series that documents the history of the Lakers throughout their path to becoming the gold standard of basketball.
Via Marca:
“Basketball fans can enjoy some brand new content this August 15, when the worldwide release of ‘Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers’ will take place. It is a 10-episode docuseries that starts with the moment when Jerry Buss takes over the team, and it tells the story of how he turned it into one of the most successful sports franchises of all time.
“Disney+ is in charge of bringing to our homes a documentary that promises very strong emotions, mainly for Lakers fans, but also for anyone who wants to know more about one of the greatest sporting miracles in history.
“Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the docuseries is a journey with exclusive access to the Buss family through the last 40 years of the Lakers, precisely their most successful period, when they became one of the most profitable franchises in sport.”
This series includes interviews from such Laker stalwarts as Jeanie Buss, the late Dr. Jerry Buss, Shaquille O’Neal, Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, LeBron James and former coach Pat Riley.
