Alabama has been known to have celebrity guest speakers in the past. Athletes like Kobe Bryant and Alex Rodriguez both took the time to speak with the Alabama football program. Other notable celebrities that have also been to Tuscaloosa are Mike Tyson and Michael Phelps. Phelps was speaking with the team on the third day of fall practice.
On Tuesday, future NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald spoke with the team. In one of Coach Saban’s press conferences, he spoke about some of the questions asked by the players to Fitzgerald and how he responded.
“One of the players asked (Fitzgerald), ‘How did you stay motivated when you had so much success for so long?’,” Saban shared. “And he said, ‘I love the process. I love watching film. I love to practice, I caught extra balls before practice, I ran routes with the quarterback after practice, I love the process. And then when the game came, it was really, really easy.'”
The product of Pittsburgh spent 17 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. He was an 11-time Pro Bowl selection, First-team All-Pro (2008), and won the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award (2016). Those are just several of his many accomplishments in his profession.
He created the “Carol Fitzgerald Memorial Fund.” It was essentially established to educate the youth about HIV, AIDS, and breast cancer issues. Along with that, he also established the “Larry Fitzgerald First Down Fund”, which supported families in crisis in places like Minneapolis and Phoenix. Fitzgerald has had a profound impact on and off the field.
