Two Aggies among redshirt freshmen to watch

Trey Zuhn and Tunmise Adeleye earn some well deserved recognition.

We spend so much time focused on recruiting as college football fans that the latest class of true freshmen are often the ones with the most intrigue and excitement heading into a new season.

But for most, even very high level recruits, the jump from the high school level to the FBS, especially to the pinnacle, the SEC, is massive, and many benefit from the opportunity to take a redshirt year. However, too often fans and analysts lose interest in these types, moving on to the shiny new class.

However, on Tuesday, Chris Hummer of 247Sports  released a list of “Redshirt Freshmen who demand your attention in 2022“, and two Aggies who will play important roles for the team this year showed up on the list.

TREY ZUHN – OFFENSIVE TACKLE

Trey Zuhn played in four games last season, taking 46 snaps and earning a 73.3 PFF grade. His workload is expected to increase considerably this year as he’s in line to become the Aggies’ starting left tackle. Zuhn worked that role all spring and the buzz around him has been largely positive as he looks to replace the up-and-down play of Jahmir Johnson from a year ago. An Aggie legacy who was born in College Station, Zuhn should help form an all-underclassman starting tackle group for A&M alongside Reuben Fatheree.

TUNMISE ADELEYE – DEFENSIVE LINE

The Aggies figure to have several redshirt freshmen make a big impact and Tunmise Adeleye is at the forefront of that group defensively. Adeleye had a huge spring and then spring game for the Aggies with seven tackles and multiple pressures, and he figures to start somewhere along A&M’s defensive line. The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder brings flexibility due to his ability to play inside and outside.

Both Trey and Tunmise will have big roles for the Aggies in 2022, and will play a major part in the success of their units.
