With three weeks until the start of the 2022 college football season, the official preseason USA Today Coaches Poll was released on Monday afternoon. While not ranked, the UNC football program did receive some recognition.
The Tar Heels were slotted in the ‘others receiving votes’ category. Listed at No. 33 in the poll, UNC received 34 votes.
Louisville and Florida State were also two ACC programs to receive votes, albeit one a piece.
In total, the ACC had five teams in the top 25. Clemson (4), NC State (13), Pittsburgh (16), Miami (17) and Wake Forest (19) were the teams representing the ACC.
The Tar Heels enter the 2022 season with one big question mark. Who will be their quarterback? It is one of the bigger quarterback battles in college football just a few weeks away from week one. While UNC and Mack Brown return a lot of talent on the defensive side of the ball and some skill position players offensively, with no Sam Howell under center, there are questions as to how successful they will be this season.
North Carolina was ranked preseason No. 9 last season and, while severely overrated, failed to meet those expectations. The Tar Heels finished last season 6-7 overall with a loss to South Carolina in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.
UNC gets its season started on Aug. 27 against Florida A&M.
