Bears WR N’Keal Harry suffered high-ankle sprain

Bears WR N’Keal Harry can’t catch a break. Harry suffered what appears to be a severe ankle injury, but he’s awaiting further evaluation.

Bears wide receiver N’Keal Harry went down with a left leg injury during Saturday’s closed training camp practice.

While head coach Matt Eberflus didn’t know the severity of the injury following the session, the media in attendance noted it looked to be a significant ankle injury, as Harry needed to be helped off the field by teammates and trainers.

According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, Harry was tackled by safety Eddie Jackson and linebacker Nicholas Morrow during the start of a team period. He had difficulty putting any weight on it and was helped to the locker room.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has confirmed that it’s an ankle injury for Harry, and it appears that it’s severe. But Harry “is awaiting further evaluation and hoping for the best.”

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Harry was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain, and he’s going to see a specialist to determine how long he’ll be sidelined.

With a high-ankle sprain, players are usually sidelined for six weeks, which isn’t encouraging for someone like Harry looking to restart his career in Chicago.

The Bears traded a 2023 seventh-round pick to the New England Patriots for Harry, who has been competing for a roster spot at wide receiver. So far, Harry has made some impressive catches and looked to be involved in the run game, especially his blocking.

Outside of Darnell Mooney, the competition at receiver is wide open. Harry had a good chance to earn a roster spot — and compete for playing time — before he was injured.
