Former UNC football quarterback [autotag]Mitch Trubisky[/autotag] is battling for the starting job in Pittsburgh after signing with the Steelers as a free agent.

But shortly after Trubisky was signed, the team took former Pitt standout Kenny Pickett in the 2022 NFL draft. The two are battling along with Mason Rudolph for the starting job and as training camp begins this week, Trubisky is also using his veteran presence to help Pickett.

Trubisky met the media as the Steelers opened camp on Wednesday and was asked about helping Pickett out. The former UNC standout revealed he would help Pickett and offer up some knowledge.

“I think it’s just being a great teammate every day,” Trubisky said via Josh Rowntree. “Having those conversations in the meeting room, locker room or wherever we are at with practice. Helping him if he has any questions. just share my experiences with him. Going into year six, I have a lot of experience with training camp, when it comes to learning offenses. I’ve seen a lot of defenses. Having those conversations helps me as well.”

With Pickett being a first-round pick, there will be pressure on Trubisky if he does win the job early on. Any mistakes, even in training camp, will have fans calling for Pickett to come in and play. That’s just life in the NFL.

But the best thing Trubisky can do is go out and earn the job by playing well.
