2024 five-star target’s mom a ‘big fan of UNC’ basketball program

2024 five-star target Jarin Stevenson has visited UNC already and says his mom is a ‘big fan of UNC’ basketball and the program.

While the UNC basketball program is focused on finalizing its roster in the 2023 recruiting class, there are a few class of 2024 prospects who are starting to emerge as top tier targets for Hubert Davis and the program.

One of those 2024 prospects is in-state, five-star forward [autotag]Jarin Stevenson[/autotag]. Stevenson, who plays for Pittsboro (NC) Seaforth, is ranked No. 16 in the 247Sports Composite Rankings and the No. 1 player in the state.

Stevenson has already visited UNC in the past and continues to show his heavy interest in the program.

He broke down the UNC basketball program with On3.com and also touched on the rest of his recruitment.

“The campus was very nice. We just went around. The feel is very campus-like, not too much city but it’s a great campus. Again, we met the coaching staff. They were very nice to me. They showed me around. We went on a golf cart, and it was all very nice. (UNC) is very prestigious. Michael Jordan, Vince Carter, and lots of NBA greats came from that school. It’s a great school and a great program.”

Stevenson has taken three unofficial visits thus far, to North Carolina, Virginia and NC State. He has offers from UNC, NC State, Virginia and Wake Forest.

Stevenson averaged 20.6 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game last season for Seaforth High School.

Another key part of Stevenson’s recruitment is his mom. She played at North Carolina and remains a huge fan of the university and basketball program still.

“She is a big fan of UNC but it ultimately comes down to whatever is best for me. Whatever I want, is what I should do and not follow in her footsteps per se, but do what I want to do.”

While the Tar Heels are the early leader and could ultimately land the 6-foot-9 prospect, Stevenson is still looking to keep an open mind when it comes to his recruitment.
