Hubert Davis and his UNC basketball staff are keeping tabs on an in-state prospect in the 2024 class and things are starting to pick up in his recruitment.
Pittsboro, North Carolina native Drake Powell is a four-star recruit that is ranked just outside of the top 50 overall on 247Sports. He has a total of 11 offers in his recruitment so far with Miami, Florida State, Georgia and LSU among the teams to offer. While UNC has yet to offer, the Tar Heels are showing interest in Powell and that was the case again on Thursday.
Per Jamie Shaw of On3, the Tar Heels had two assistants in attendance to watch Team CP3 face off against the Florida Rebels. UNC was joined by several other schools including NC State, Cincinnati, South Carolina and Creighton to watch.
Shaw also wrote on Powell’s game earlier in the week:
Drake Powell’s instincts are through the roof. He consistently makes great reads, is money from the elbows, and his defensive acumen is elite. Great length and makes winning plays.
It’s clear UNC is interested in Powell and an offer should be coming anytime now. Landing an in-state talent like Powell for 2024 would be a boost for the Tar Heels’ class and he’s a player we are going to keep an eye on moving forward.
