EA Sports has revealed all of their ratings for the defensive side of the ball for the latest iteration of their Madden video game franchise.
The Kansas City Chiefs have made a lot of moves on defense ahead of the 2022 NFL season. They’ve moved on from veteran players who helped the team secure a Super Bowl title, replacing them with younger and cheaper talent via the draft and free agency. It’s a move that could benefit the team in the long term, but in the interim, there seem to be some skeptics.
One of the team’s longest-tenured veteran defenders is DT Chris Jones, who was a 2016 second-round draft pick. He also happens to be the team’s highest-rated defender in “Madden NFL 23” with a 91 overall rating. Justin Reid comes in second with an 82 overall rating and L’Jarius Sneed comes in third with an 81 overall rating. Those are the only three players on the defensive side of the ball, who are rated higher than 79 overall.
Check out the breakdown of Jones’ rating down below:
Jones also has the fifth-highest overall rating among all defensive tackles in the game. Only Rams DT Aaron Donald (99), Steelers DT Cam Heyward (93), Bucs DT Vita Vea (93) and Commanders DT Jonathan Allen (92) are rated higher. Jones is coming off of a season where he recorded 10 sacks and 65 total pressures on the year (comb. regular season and playoffs).
If Madden ratings are any indication of how the team will actually perform in 2022, the Chiefs could be in trouble on the defensive side of the ball. Thankfully, these ratings are adjusted and improved upon during the course of the season. It’ll provide players the chance to prove these early ratings wrong.
