Harsin looks to translate “comfort” into “winning” in 2022

Bryan Harsin is staying true to his hard-nosed coaching method, which could be a positive payoff for Auburn football.

One of the most noteworthy, and even eye-popping, events of Auburn football’s offseason was the mass exodus of assistant coaches and athletes from the program.

Head coach [autotag]Bryan Harsin[/autotag]’s staff will be almost completely revamped heading into 2022, as three new coaches enter the program, while two will take on different roles. The roster will also have a new look, as 18 players transferred away from the program at the conclusion of last season.

Does all of this shape-shifting mean that we are seeing the fall of Auburn football? Time will tell, but we could also be seeing the opposite.

Harsin is a coach that wants to succeed in the most comfortable way possible. In order to do that, he will demand that everyone around his program perform up to his standards. This mindset could create a new culture with Auburn football and will be instrumental for success.

In a recent appearance on local radio show “Sportscall”, ESPN’s Laura Rutledge says that she feels that the more comfortable Harsin is, the better that Auburn Football will be.

“If you are the leader of something, and the people around you are not necessarily who you are familiar with or where you feel most comfortable, or not necessarily going along with the things that you are trying to implement, then you are not going to have that much success,” Rutledge said. “So I actually commend him for surrounding himself with people who he really wants to be surrounded by. I think that it will allow leadership to come across a little bit better with the players that are still there.”

She also feels that this season’s roster will a similar mindset to Harsin, which will make the buy-in process easier to obtain.

“Now you have players that, hopefully, that want to be there and that understand what is required from an Auburn football player under Bryan Harsin,” Rutledge said. “As long as that is the case, then we will be able to see what that looks like next season.”

Harsin, as well as three player representatives, are scheduled to take their turns at SEC Media Days on Thursday morning. Coverage of SEC Media Days can be seen on the SEC Network.
