While the UNC football program has plenty of questions heading into the 2022 season under Mack Brown, one player they know they can count on is wide receiver [autotag]Josh Downs[/autotag].
The junior is coming off a monster season in 2021 for UNC as he was their best player on the offensive unit. He set the UNC single-season record for most receptions (101) and receiving yards (1,335) and earned First Team All-ACC honors for his play.
Now, going into this season he’s early All-American honors from one big publication.
Sporting News put out their 2022 preseason All-America teams for the upcoming year and while Downs didn’t land as a first team selection, he was among the wide receivers on the second team.
Downs joined Texas receiver Xavier Worthy on the second team as the two wide receivers. Ohio State’s Jaxson Smith-Njigba and USC’s Jordan Addison were the two receivers that made the first team.
Downs is the lone UNC player to make the preseason All-American list on Sporting News this year.
