Ravens’ Calais Campbell explains excitement about Baltimore’s DL

Ravens defensive lineman Calais Campbell expressed his excitement surrounding the team’s defensive line

The Baltimore Ravens invested a decent amount of capital into the defensive line position over the course of the 2022 offseason. They re-signed Calais Campbell, brought in Michael Pierce and Brent Urban in free agency, as well as drafted Travis Jones in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft.

After the first session of mandatory minicamp for Baltimore, Campbell was asked about some of the things that he’s excited for from the team’s defensive line group. He talked about how the younger players on the roster are working hard, and that assistant head coach and defensive line coach Anthony Weaver will help the unit grow and develop.

“We have some talent. We have some young guys full of potential that are working really hard. I think [assistant head coach and defensive line coach] Coach ‘Weav’ [Anthony Weaver] is an incredible coach who is going to really help the D-line really mature and develop. When you have the kind of talent we have, and when have a good work … everybody in there is a grinder. They’re always trying to get better and better. It’s a lot of competition, and it makes us all better. Iron sharpens iron, so I expect big things out of our D-line. We always say, ‘The team goes where the D-line goes.’ Obviously, there’s the quarterback, and there’s the D-line. I feel like we have to be at our very best and lead this team.”

Aside from the players that the Ravens brought in or brought back on the defensive line, they also have talented third-year players waiting in the wings in Justin Madubuike and Broderick Washington. The unit is a deep one, and they should be able to get many great contributions from their talent in 2022.
