Mack Brown behind a few coaches in ACC rankings

UNC Football head coach Mack Brown falls a few spots in updated CBS Sports head coach rankings for ACC.

UNC football’s [autotag]Mack Brown[/autotag] is receiving his flowers by another publication, earning a top five spot in the current Atlantic Coastal Conference’s head coach rankings.

Since Brown made his return to UNC, the football program has had a new swagger that helped them in becoming one of the nation’s top recruited schools. The work off the field has led to some success on the field with UNC ranking as high as fifth on the Associated Press polls throughout his three-year return.

Despite finishing fourth on this year’s CBS ranking, it is two spots down from the previous season where UNC finished with a 6-7 record.

CBS went as far as listing the forgettable season as to why Brown moved from the number two spot behind Clemsons’ Dabo Swinney.

Mack Brown (20 overall): The 2021 season was undoubtedly disappointing for the Tar Heels, and Brown’s coach-ranking status suffered as a result. He dropped eight spots in the national rankings, but just two among ACC coaches after North Carolina started the season as a top-10 team in the preseason poll and proceeded to lose three games to unranked teams before mid-October. Still, Brown’s a Hall of Famer with a national championship to his name, and he did have the Tar Heels in the Orange Bowl just two years ago. Last year: 2 in the ACC

This season could be very telling for the UNC football program with star quarterback Sam Howell and defensive coordinator Jay Bateman’s departure. The team will take on a new identity on offense and defense, serving as a turning point in Brown’s return.
