It’s been a slow start for Michigan football on the recruiting trail for the 2023 class. But things have picked up in July as the Wolverines picked up the talents of three-star receiver Fredrick Moore and four-star linebacker Semaj Bridgeman on July 1.
The Wolverines have eight total commits for 2023 and the 247Sports composite has the maize and blue ranked No. 53 in the country in the class ranking.
But some help could be on the way for Michigan. A trio of top targets will announce their college destinations on July 7-8.
The first is going to be West Bloomfield four-star offensive lineman Amir Herring. According to 247Sports composite, Herring is the 283th-ranked prospect in the class and he is the 13th-best interior offensive lineman. Herring will be announcing his decision on July 7 and his final four consists of Michigan, Nebraska, Missouri, and Boston College. There are seven crystal balls for Herring on 247Sports and all seven are predicting the Wolverines to keep the West Bloomfield product in Michigan.
The maize and blue currently have zero offensive linemen committed for the 2023 class, so if Sherrone Moore and Michigan can land the 6-foot-3 300-pound Herring, it would be a tremendous boost to the class.
On July 8 the Wolverines will see two huge targets announcing their decisions: Collins Acheampong and Jalen Brown.
Acheampong is a four-star athlete who plays high school ball out of Santa Margarita Catholic (California). The 6-foot-7 254-pound athlete is projected to play the edge at the college level, and he would be a huge get for Mike Elston and the Wolverines. According to 247Sports composite, he is the 271st-ranked prospect in the country and the 16th-ranked athlete.
Acheampong’s final four is down to Michigan, Miami (FL), LSU, and UCLA. There are currently five crystal ball predictions out for the four-star dual-sport athlete and all five are in the Wolverines’ favor. But the last prediction came on June 12, so Michigan fans will have to see if the maize and blue can finish the job on Friday.
The last target — which is one of the best prospects out there — is the five-star receiver, Jalen Brown. Brown plays football at Gulliver Prep in Florida and the Wolverines will have to fend off LSU, Miami (FL), and Florida State to get the five-star phenom. 247Sports composite has the Florida prospect ranked 29th-best recruit in the class and the fourth-ranked receiver.
Things are looking bleak for Michigan in this recruitment though, out of the five crystal ball predictions in for Brown, three of them are going for LSU and the other two are in Miami (FL) favor.
It’s looking good for Michigan to possibly land two prospects in the next two days, and if the Wolverines could somehow land all three then you will see the class ranking skyrocket.
Stay tuned to WolverinesWire to see if the Wolverines can keep the recruiting momentum going in the next couple days.
