Even though the 2022 NFL season hasn’t started it is never too soon to start talking about the 2023 NFL draft. Matt Miller over at ESPN put out a new mock draft and there were two things that really stood out for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
First off, in Miller’s scenario, the Steelers are picking No. 6 overall. This presents some serious concerns given the talent on this team. It would almost definitely point to a failure at the quarterback position by Mitch Trubisky or Kenny Pickett. Probably both.
Then when you look at the pick and Miller has the Steelers taking Georgia cornerback Kelee Ringo. Ringo heads into the season without a lot of help on defense and should have a shot to shine for the Bulldogs. He’s got elite NFL size and is regarded as one of the top two cornerback prospects as of now.
But if the Steelers are picking sixth overall, it’s because things went wrong at quarterback. A record this poor also means Kenny Pickett was on the field and things didn’t go according to plan.
This mock draft would present an interesting predicament given how loaded this quarterback class looks. Alabama’s Brycee Young goes the pick after the Steelers pick followed by Kentucky’s Will Levis and BYU’s Jaren Hall at eight and nine.
You can bet if the Steelers are picking nine and Pickett stunk there will be plenty of speculation about a do-over as a first-round quarterback.
Let us know in the comments who you would take if the Steelers are picking this high in the 2023 NFL draft.
