The Seahawks made a serious investment at cornerback in the 2022 NFL draft. In the fourth and fifth round, they doubled up on a position that had been their greatest weakness heading into last season. While it’s not on par with the original Legion of Boom, this secondary looks to be one of the team’s strongest units this year thanks to that investment.
One of the best reasons to feel hopeful is Cincinnati’s Coby Bryant, who won the Jim Thorpe award last year – given to the most outstanding defensive back in college football. While he’s not as highly-touted as his former teammate Ahmad Gardner and not as athletic as new teammate Tariq Woolen, Bryant has made a career for himself by out-performing most of his competitors.
Last night on Twitter Bryant shared a tweet talking about that underdog mentality he’s bringing to Seattle.
Ain’t nothing wrong with being a underdog. All it does it make the wins way better , cause you went and took it ! Stay hungry! #Ball4DF

The Seahawks have signed most of their 2022 rookie class, but Bryant is an exception. If you’re looking for a party to blame it’s the Texans, who gave their fourth-round pick – Florida running back Dameon Pierce – an extra $25,000 workout bonus upon signing. That’s held up contracts for all of the other fourth-rounders around the league (including Bryant), whose agents are no doubt fishing for a similar carrot.
Once he’s officially under contract Bryant could have a chance to earn some real playing time. We are projecting he will start on the outside opposite Sidney Jones Week 1.
