Sam Cassell remains with Sixers after Jazz hire Will Hardy as coach

Sam Cassell will remain with the Philadelphia 76ers after missing out on the job with the Utah Jazz after they hired Will Hardy.

With the Utah Jazz looking to find a new coach to replace Quin Snyder after he stepped down from the job after eight seasons, Philadelphia 76ers assistant Sam Cassell was in the running to replace Snyder and that would have been a big blow to coach Doc Rivers’ staff.

Cassell is an important part of the Sixers as somebody who develops the players and he does a great job with them before and after games. His voice is always heard and he has been helpful in developing Tyrese Maxey.

On Tuesday, the Jazz decided they were going to hire Will Hardy from the Boston Celtics. Hardy was an assistant on Ime Udoka’s staff and helped the C’s make a run to the NBA Finals in 2022.

This is a good thing for Philadelphia, while an unfortunate event for Cassell who probably deserves a head coaching job at some point. He is a big piece of the Sixers and it would have been tough replacing the former NBA champion on the staff.
