Joe Tipton of On3Sports reported on Friday that 2023 shooting guard Jelani Hamilton will be announcing his commitment on July 1st.
Hamilton is regarded as a four-star according to 247Sports’ recruiting rankings. He is listed at 6-foot-6 and 180 pounds. The product of Cumberland Christian Academy has taken just one official visit thus far and that was to Iowa State. Along with making the trip to Ames, he has taken unofficial visits to Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Auburn. On3’s RPM is in favor of Iowa State at 96.9%.
The Georgia native would be a nice fit in Bruce Pearl’s system. He has great size to play the two and could possibly fit in at the three spot in the Tigers’ offensive scheme. Here is what On3’s national recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw had to say about Hamilton:
Jelani Hamilton has a strong frame, broad shoulders, long arms, and great positional size. The first thing you notice about his game is the pace with which he plays. The 6-foot-6 guard plays primarily on the ball for his high school team. While he is not an elite athlete, and while he can play too upright at times, he can get to his spots, understanding angles and changes of speed. Hamilton gets into the paint and can absorb contact with his frame. He has a smooth shot that he confidently takes, with range, off the bounce or the catch. There are a lot of positive attributes to Hamilton’s game.
Although he is heavily favored to commit to Iowa State, it is still possible that he chooses Auburn. We will have to wait and see what he decides to do for his college career.
