It seems Penn State will be walking into a color-coordinated Michigan Stadium later this fall. When Penn State makes a road trip to Ann Arbor to face the defending Big Ten champions, they will do so in front of a maize out in Michigan Stadium.
Michigan announced its home game against the Nittany Lions on Saturday, Oct. 15 will be the school’s official maize out game for the 2022 season. The kickoff time for the game has yet to be announced, but Michigan fans are already expressing some of the same concerns as Penn State fans did recently with its White Out Game; this probably will not be a night game.
Michigan already has a primetime game in Michigan Stadium secured for a home game against Hawaii in Week 2, but there are rumors suggesting a second home night game will be used for a late October clash with in-state rival Michigan State. Considering TV networks essentially run the schedule at this point, the suspicion is FOX may pluck the Michigan-Penn State game for its lineup on Oct. 15, with the possibility of a Big Noon Kickoff entirely on the table.
The biggest game of the day in the Big Ten, arguably Wisconsin playing at Michigan State, is already locked into a 3:30 timeslot with a network to be determined. For FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff, the Michigan-Penn State game is a strong candidate. The next best option for FOX would be in the Big 12 with Iowa State visiting Texas.
So it is looking very possible Penn State could be walking into a noon maize out and hosting a noon stripe out a couple of weeks later when the Buckeyes come to Happy Valley.
Penn State’s White Out game was confirmed for its home game against Minnesota on Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
