Former Sixers big man Al Horford, Celtics fall as Warriors win title

Former Philadelphia 76ers big man Al Horford and the Boston Celtics fall as the Golden State Warriors win the title.

The Philadelphia 76ers were eliminated from the playoffs back on May 12 in the Eastern Conference semifinals, but there are still remnants of former Sixers still in the playoffs.

Former Philadelphia big man Al Horford, for example, was in the NBA Finals with the Boston Celtics as they took on the Golden State Warriors. Horford and the Celtics faced elimination on Thursday night as they looked to force a Game 7 back in the Bay Area, but they weren’t able to do so at home.

Horford had 19 points and 14 rebounds for the Celtics, but the Warriors hit the C’s with a 3-point barrage led by Stephen Curry as Golden State took Game 6 by a score of 103-90. This is the fourth title in eight seasons for the Warriors as they are still the gold standard in the league.

Another former Sixer, Andre Iguodala on the side of the Warriors, now has his fourth ring–all with Golden State. He won a Finals MVP in 2015 to begin this run for the Dubs.

Now that the 2021-22 season is officially in the books, the Sixers will look to find a way to get themselves in that position for the 2022-23 season. Just to get to the finals, they will have to find a way to get past the defending Eastern Conference champion Celtics before even thinking about the Warriors.
