Luc Lipcius ends career as Tennessee’s home run king.

Notre Dame (40-16) defeated No. 1 Tennessee (57-9), 7-3, in the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Super Regional series finale Sunday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The loss ends Tennessee’s season.

Graduate student first baseman Luc Lipcius went 1-for-4 with one home run, one RBI and one run.

The home run was Lipcius’ 19th of the season and he became Tennessee’s career home run leader (40). Evan Russell ended his Tennessee career with 39 home runs.

“The records are whatever, but it’s just this group of guys that was one of my favorites of all- time,” Lipcius said about what the 2022 season meant to him. “That’s the hardest thing to give up. It’s really hard to believe it’s over. That’s the great thing about being on a team like this — the relationships are never over.

“I know I’ve got their backs. I know they have mine. We’ll be in contact and I can’t wait to follow all of their great careers.”
