Seahawks restructure contract for DT Shelby Harris for cap savings

The Seahawks have restructured the contract for defensive tackle Shelby Harris, according to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network. The move will save the team around $3.26 million in cap room for the 2022 season.

Harris was one of three players and several draft picks that came to Seattle from Denver as part of the Russell Wilson trade. He is under contract this year as well as 2023. He joins what was already a pretty strong rotation of interior defensive linemen, led by Al Woods and Poona Ford. They also re-signed former DT Quinton Jefferson. A former seventh-round draft pick by the Raiders, Harris is now 30 years old and is one of the most underrated players in the league at his position.

Moves like this are often a prelude to another one. Odds are it will be something less exciting, but it’s possible they’re making room for a Baker Mayfield trade.
