Florida football’s recruiting team is hosting a handful of 2023 prospects this weekend in Gainesville as head coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and his staff continue to push the program back into national title contention. However, the work does not stop with the current class — the prep prospect wars require a longitudinal outlook that plans ahead as far as possible.
The Gators got a great head start on the 2024 crop this past week when 5-star running back [autotag]Stacy Gage[/autotag] out of Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy dropped in on the Swamp for an unofficial visit. Napier has made a point of focusing on the prolific athletic academy down I-75 and the 5-foot-11-inch, 200-pound sophomore represents a continuation of that policy.
“It was exciting because it was something new to me,” Gage told Swamp247. “It caught my eye. It was different and I felt good about it. I got to see the players work out, they took me for a tour, I talked with the running backs coach and met the new staff.
“They have a lot of history in their program, they develop guys and get guys into the league, the development is something I really like. I feel like they are one of my top schools now. I like them, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and a couple others right now.”
Gage is the No. 30 prospect overall and the No. 2 running back nationally in the 2024 class per the 247Sports Composite, which gives him a five-star rating, while the On3 Consensus has him at No. 24 and No. 1, respectively, and a four-star rating. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has the Florida State Seminoles out front in the race for his talents with a 21.1% chance of landing him.
