It’s always the quiet ones.
Quarterback Joe Burrow and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase obviously have a long-standing connection going back to their national-championship season at LSU in 2020. That connection was rekindled in 2021 which led to a berth in Super Bowl LVI for the Cincinnati Bengals.
But neither are usually huge talkers, though Burrow certainly had some comments (and outfits), especially during the playoff run. But for the most part, they’re relatively quiet.
Which is why Chase’s nickname for their connection is quite fitting, albeit a little cliche: “Silent Ninja”.
“We can talk in silence. That’s pretty cool,” said Chase (H/T Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com)
“Now we just have to add to the expectation we’re one of the best in the league and we have to keep that expectation and roll with it,” Chase said. “Every game’s a tough game the NFL. We’re not worried about our X. Everybody has an X on their back.”
The Bengals obviously will have a huge X on their backs as the reigning AFC champions, though maybe not as huge since the Bills are the betting favorites and the Chiefs and Chargers are getting a lot of love too.
But the Silent Ninjas are certainly just fine with continuing to fly under the radar. They’ll just go out and do their thing and potentially find themselves in Arizona in February.
