No. 11 Pittsburgh’s bats came alive at the right time as the Panthers used a huge sixth inning to comeback and upset No. 6 Georgia Tech in Wednesday’s opening game of the 2022 ACC baseball tournament.
Trailing 6-2 in the top of the sixth inning a two-run home run by Ron Washington, Jr. got Pitt within two before Bryce Hulett made it back-to-back round trippers for the Panthers. That was just the start of an eruption in the inning however.
A Georgia Tech error on a ball hit by Dom Popa tied things at six before Jeffrey Wehler single plated the two to give Pitt an 8-6 advantage. Ultimately the Panthers would score two more for the inning and pull out a 12-6 victory.
Pitt now takes on No. 2 Louisville at 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday while Georgia Tech plays Louisville at 11 a.m. ET Thursday.
