2022 New Orleans Saints’ win total, Super Bowl, conference and division odds

Analyzing 2022 NFL futures for the New Orleans Saints, including odds for win total, Super Bowl and division with expert picks.

The New Orleans Saints are in the post-Sean Payton era after the coach stepped down following a 15-year stint (2006-21). During Payton’s tenure, New Orleans won the 2010 Super Bowl and 7 NFC South division titles, including 4 straight from 2017-20.

Below, we look at the New Orleans Saints’ 2022 NFL futures odds – including win total, division, conference and Super Bowl odds at Tipico Sportsbook – with best bet suggestions among our NFL picks and predictions.

In the first season following QB Drew Brees’ retirement, the Saints finished 9-8 in 2021 and failed to make the playoffs for the first time in the last five seasons. Brees had been New Orleans’ QB since 2006.

New Orleans promoted defensive coordinator Dennis Allen to coach and QB Jameis Winston will remain the starter for a second consecutive season.

Winston has talent around him in the offense such as 5-time Pro Bowl RB Alvin Kamara, 2019 Offensive Player of the Year WR Michael Thomas and newly acquired 5-time Pro Bowl WR Jarvis Landry.

Can the Saints return to the playoffs and challenge the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the NFC South crown in their first chapter of a new era?

New Orleans Saints’ 2022 win total: Best bet

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Monday, May 23 at 5:55 p.m. ET.

Over/Under: 7.5 (O: -170 | U: +140)

PASS with a heavy “lean” toward Over 7.5 (-170) only because I wouldn’t tie up my money in a future this pricey.

However, there’s a lot to like about the Saints coming into this season, so I’d bet New Orleans’ regular-season win total if it increases to 8 with cheaper juice.

The Saints were 9-3 in games started by either Winston or QB Taysom Hill, – both missed games because of injuries.  They missed the playoffs, losing a tiebreaker to the Eagles (also 9-8 overall).

New Orleans’ defense is loaded with Pro Bowl talent at all three levels. The Saints have perhaps the best linebacker group in the NFL. They have 3 defensive linemen ranked in Pro Football Focus’s top 10 and signed 3-time All-Pro S Tyrann Mathieu in the offseason.

Also, their defense ranked 3rd in DVOA by Football Outsiders last season, 1st in success rate and 2nd in expected points added per play.

The offense is a question mark with Winston under center. However, they added first-round draft pick WR Chris Olave (Ohio State) to an offense with two of the best players at their position when healthy in Kamara and Thomas, so Winston has support.

The biggest question mark for the Saints is the departure of 3-time Pro Bowl LT Terron Armstead (to the Miami Dolphins). They addressed this by using their other first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft on LT Trevor Penning (Northern Iowa).

If the Saints get good injury luck this season, they can flirt with double-digit wins and could even win a couple of playoff games.

But the Saints’ Over 7.5 (-170) regular-season wins price is too expensive, so I’d rather “sprinkle” on a Saints future with a fatter payout.

New Orleans Saints’ 2022 Super Bowl odds

Odds: +4000 (bet $100 to win $4000)

PASS.

I don’t like the Saints vs. several elite AFC teams should they make it as far as the Super Bowl, which is highly unlikely with a rookie coach and Winston, who has never started a playoff game.

New Orleans’ Super Bowl odds are longer than the Eagles and Cardinals (both +3000), but the Saints are better than both of those teams.

New Orleans Saints’ 2022 playoff odds

Will Saints make the playoffs: Yes +130 | No -160

BET YES (+130).

They were on the cusp of a playoff berth last season despite dealing with a cluster of injuries to their QB room and missing one of the best wideouts in the game in Thomas.

More importantly, the Saints have the ninth-easiest schedule in the NFL next season according to their opponent’s projected regular-season win totals, (per Warren Sharp).

Only 6 NFC teams are projected to win more games than the Saints – a few also have an 8.5-win total. Remember, the NFL moved to a 7-teams per conference playoff format last season.

Odds to win NFC South Division

  • Atlanta Falcons +1500 (bet $100 to win $1,500)
  • Carolina Panthers +1000 (bet $100 to win $1,000)
  • New Orleans Saints +380 (bet $100 to win $380)
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers -310 (bet $310 to win $100)

PASS.

The Saints’ price should be north of +600 since QB Tom Brady is returning to the Buccaneers. He has led his team (New England Patriots or Tampa Bay) to division titles in 17 of his last 18 healthy seasons. The only time he didn’t was in 2020 when the Saints claimed the NFC South in his first season with the Bucs.

Odds to win NFC

Odds: +2000 (bet $100 to win $2000)

SPRINKLE on the SAINTS TO WIN NFC (+2000), if at all, because this is definitely the weaker of the two conferences. If your usual unit is $100 then risk only $10 to win $200 on the off-chance New Orleans reaches the Super Bowl.

Granted, a lot of things need to go right for this to happen: Winston throws 30-plus TDs with fewer than 15 interceptions, New Orleans’ defense is a top-3 unit in football and the Saints hit a home run with Allen as Payton’s successor.

All of those things are in play with the least likely being Winston’s ascension into a legit franchise QB. However, the defense could be enough to carry the Saints on a playoff run.

New Orleans to make the playoffs is my favorite future bet here, but there’s little value in SAINTS TO WIN NFC (+2000).
