Freshman pitcher Billy Barlow pitched 6.0 innings and kept the Tigers’ late season momentum going as Clemson defeated Boston College 5-0 Saturday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
In the senior’s final home game of their careers, the Tigers’ pitching came to play, combining to allow only two hits in their shutout of Boston College. Getting the start, Barlow allowed a single hit in the third while striking out four batters. Ryan Ammons pitched 1.1 innings to end the game, earning his eighth save of the year.
In the third inning, Clemson’s (35-21, 13-16 ACC), Reed Garris hit a leadoff single followed by a double from Benjamin Blackwell. Will Taylor then secured the team’s first run by hitting a sacrifice fly.
Clemson didn’t look back from there as they piled on four more runs throughout the game, while holding Boston College (19-34, 5-25 ACC) scoreless.
The Tigers will next play their first game in the ACC Baseball Tournament in Charlotte either Tuesday or Wednesday as the 12th seed. Clemson will be in a pool with the tournament’s No.1 and No.8 seeds.
