Before the 2022 season starts, UNC football defensive back is already being honored by appearing on a watch list. And it’s not a watch list that only matters for on-the-field achievements.
The 2022 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List was released on Thursday, featuring dozens of defensive players were named to the watch list, including UNC defensive back [autotag]Tony Grimes.[/autotag] He was one of 8 Atlantic Coast Conference named to the watch list joining DT Bryan Bresee (Clemson) and LB Trenton Simpson (Clemson), LB Shaka Heyward (Duke), DL Akheem Mesidor (Miami), DL Calijah Kancey (Pitt), LB Nick Jackson and Wake Forest S Nick Andersen (Virginia).
The award is named after Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott and is given to the one player who makes the biggest impact on his team both on and off the field.
IMPACT stands for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community, and Tenacity which are all traits Lott played the game and lived his life with.
Grimes is entering his third season at North Carolina after enrolling early as a five-star recruit back in 2020.
