The UNC football program had four players drafted in the 2022 NFL draft a few weeks ago and as teams go into rookie minicamps, draft analysts are looking ahead to 2023 already.
For the Tar Heels, they will have some interesting prospects to follow this season both on offense and defense. Among those prospects to watch is defensive back [autotag]Tony Grimes[/autotag]. The early-enrollee has had a solid career at UNC so far and he’s a player that Pro Football Focus’ draft analyst Mike Renner is keeping an eye on this Summer and into the Fall in terms of evaluations for prospects.
Renner listed Grimes in his latest article for PFF:
Grimes was the former No. 1 cornerback recruit before he reclassified because of the coronavirus and came to North Carolina early. In his two seasons for the Tar Heels, he’s allowed only 40 catches on 80 targets for 524 yards.
Grimes has flashed his potential a few times at UNC but he’s also had his struggles too. He was just 18 when he arrived and earned early playing time for the Tar Heels a few seasons ago.
Now, he enters a big junior season where he has the chance to be one of the top defensive backs in next year’s draft class.
