Report: Lakers considered trading for Kyrie Irving during season

According to reports, the Lakers considered making a trade to reunite LeBron James with Kyrie Irving this season.

Kyrie Irving recently revealed during a podcast appearance that early in the season when he was ruled ineligible by the Nets due to his vaccination status, he wondered if he’d be traded to another team.

A new report indicates that the Los Angeles Lakers had discussions about potentially reuniting Irving with LeBron James in what would have been a blockbuster trade.

Via SNY:

“Several outlets, including SNY, reported that the Nets had been open to talking to teams about potential Irving trades during that time. Obviously, nothing came to fruition. But some members of the Lakers organization discussed the possibility of trading for Irving during that stretch of the season, sources say.”

Would Irving have been enough to help the Lakers avoid their late-season collapse? Perhaps, but given all the injury issues the Lakers dealt with, such a deal likely wouldn’t have put them back in title contention this season.
