Texas has been very active on both sides of the transfer portal this offseason.
That’s typically expected when a new coaching staff takes over, but Steve Sarkisian has seemingly taken it to a new level. The Longhorns have brought in over 30 new scholarship players this offseason and a couple more could still be added.
Shortly after spring practices concluded, six Texas players chose to enter the NCAA transfer portal prior to the May 1 deadline to look for more playing time elsewhere. Defensive lineman David Abiara was one of them, and he quickly found a landing spot with SMU.

The redshirt freshman did not play for the Longhorns in 2021, but was a highly touted in-state recruit in the 2021 class. Abiara was a standout player for Mansfield Legacy High School and earned Texas District 6-5A D-1 first-team selection at defensive end as a junior.
Abiara now joins former teammates Chris Adimora and Joshua Moore in Dallas.
