Charlotte finished fourth during the stroke play portion of the Conference-USA Championship as the last team to qualify for match play. The 49ers ran with that momentum and dominated on the way to the title after defeating Florida Atlantic 3-1-1 in the semifinals and UTSA 3-2 in the finals.

If you’re keeping track at home, this year’s trip to the NCAA postseason is the 17th straight for Charlotte.

“I’m just so excited for our program and proud of these guys,” said head coach Ryan Cabbage. “I told the team afterward that as a coach, you hope and trust that you will have numerous opportunities to win a championship, but as a player, you only really get four chances so I am just so happy for them. We’ll now look forward to our NCAA location and get prepared for that moving forward. We’ve got some work to do and we’ve got a lot of areas that we need to get better in, in order to perform our best at a NCAA regional if we expect to advance to Grayhawk (site of the NCAA Finals). We’ll get to work on that soon enough after we enjoy this one for a little bit.”
