The Brooklyn Nets entered the season with championship-or-bust expectations, and as the season went off the rails and culminated with a first-round sweep at the hands of the Boston Celtics, the continual criticism of the organization and its players reached a new level.
Amid constant daytime TV segments on what went wrong with the Nets, Kyrie Irving blasted “puppet masters” in the media in a rant on Twitter, calling out those who get paid for “discrediting and disrespecting people’s lives for entertainment.”
According to ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins, the criticism of Irving throughout the season – and there’s been plenty of it – has never crossed the line into disrespect.
“I don’t even know why we even got to have this conversation, because again, nobody… questioned the character of Kyrie Irving. No one disrespected his family members. We was just talking about a series where he got swept! He got swept!”
