The Philadelphia 76ers received some really tough news on Friday when they found out that Joel Embiid suffered an orbital fracture and a concussion in Thursday’s Game 6 win over the Toronto Raptors.
The Sixers won’t go very far if they can’t have a healthy Embiid out there against the Miami Heat in Round 2. Philadelphia goes as the big fella does and his injury is a huge cause for concern.
Embiid suffered an orbital fracture heading into the 2018 playoffs and he missed three weeks before returning in Game 3 against the Heat in Round 1. He did require surgery at the time and that’s why he missed as much time as he did, but per NBC Sports Philadelphia and NBC10’s John Clark, Embiid doesn’t need surgery this time around and there’s a chance he can return early in this series.
Source says it appears surgery is not required for Joel Embiid’s orbital fracture at this time
He had surgery on fracture 4 years ago & returned in 3 weeks vs Heat
He’s out at least 5 days with concussion. No timetable for his return. But there’s some hope for this series 🙏🏼 pic.twitter.com/nJb38argRN

With this news, the Sixers have hope. Without Embiid, Philadelphia would probably be able to lean more on the James Harden and Tyrese Maxey lineups, but the MVP candidate’s play is what’s going to make or break the Sixers.
Game 1 with the Heat is on Monday in Miami.
