After waiting until pick No. 64 to hear an Oklahoma Sooners name called, it only took a couple of picks after Nik Bonitto’s selection by the Denver Broncos to see the second Sooners’ draft prospect come off the board. Linebacker Brian Asamoah was taken in the third round, No. 66 overall by the Minnesota Vikings.
Asamoah, who led the Oklahoma Sooners in tackles the last two seasons saw his stock rise at the end of the 2021 season. The two-year starter at linebacker, Asamoah led the Sooners in tackles each of the last two seasons and was sixth on the team in total pressures according to Pro Football Focus.
During Senior Bowl week, Asamoah was named the top linebacker for his impressive performance.
With Jordan Hicks and Eric Kendricks on the roster, Asamoah will have a chance to learn from a couple of savvy veterans before getting his opportunity to take the field. He’ll be an asset for the Vikings in coverage and as a weakside linebacker.
