With the 30th pick in the 2022 NFL draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select Purdue EDGE George Karlaftis.
This was the original first-round pick that the Chiefs held in the draft, not the one they acquired from the Dolphins during the Tyreek Hill trade (and subsequently sent to the Patriots). It’s the second pick they’ve made in the first round this year after taking CB Trent McDuffie at pick No. 21.
Karlaftis (6-4, 266 pounds) is a prototypical Steve Spagnuolo edge rusher. He’s long, strong and had a productive college career. In 2021 at Purdue, Karlaftis posted 39 total tackles, five sacks, 11.5 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles in 12 games started. Karlaftis is also one of the younger edge rushers in the draft at just 21 years old.
You can find out more about Karlaftis from Draft Wire’s scouting report.
