CAMDEN, N.J.–Thw rost fears for the Philadelphia 76ers came to life on Sunday as Joel Embiid underwent MRI to figure out what exactly is going on with his thumb injury.
The big fella did admit that he hurt his wrist in the team’s Game 3 win over the Toronto Raptors, but after further testing, it is in fact a torn ligament in his thumb that will hinder him throughout the rest of these playoffs.
Embiid mentioned after the Game 4 loss that the thumb is in a lot of pain and that it hurts the most when he is trying to pass and rebound the ball. As the playoffs move on, it will be something to watch every single night.
“It just confirmed what we thought,” said coach Doc Rivers on Sunday. “Nothing changes, treatment’s the same. There literally will be no change. It’s just, we thought it was and it was, so you just keep moving on.”

As far as potential treatment for the thumb, Embiid will require surgery to fix the injury. However, that will wait until after the season when he will have more time.

Embiid and the Sixers will look to close out the Raptors in Game 5 back at home on Monday. That will then give them some time off and some rest before Round 2 begins.
