Penn State remains in the running for a four-star cornerback from California, but landing the verbal commitment of Daylen Austin is likely to require a good amount of work.
Austin revealed his top eight with a post on his Twitter account on Thursday. Among the eight schools included were Penn State, Alabama, LSU, Oregon, Georgia, Nebraska, Michigan State, and USC. USC is considered by some to be one of the leading candidates to keep the coveted cornerback close to home, but there are some real heavy hitters in this recruiting process at this stage of the game.
Penn State is one of the more recent schools to extend an offer to Austin, doing so in late February.

Penn State’s Class of 2023 is currently heavy on offensive help, but it does already include one four-star cornerback with in-state recruit [autotag]Lamont Payne[/autotag]. The Penn State secondary is entering the 2022 season in a pretty decent spot overall as well, and the future of the position looks good with [autotag]Kalen King[/autotag] continuing to develop as one of the top cornerbacks to watch in the Big Ten.
Penn State will have some work to do to add Austin to their Class of 2023 haul down the line. For now, though, Penn State is still officially in the running.
