The Athletic publishes unflattering dive into Colorado football

What are your thoughts on The Athletic’s article looking into Colorado football?

Early on Monday morning, The Athletic published an extensive article detailing the Colorado Buffaloes football program’s fall from national prominence to the struggles of recent years. Senior columnist and editor in chief of college football coverage Stewart Mandel wrote the piece, How did the Colorado Buffaloes decline from NFL pipeline to Pac-12 cellar-dweller?

The article includes quotes from Alfred Williams, Chad Brown, Gary Barnett, Rick Neuheisel, Joel Klatt, Dan Hawkins and Mike MacIntyre. It was admittedly quite interesting to hear the thoughts of these former players and coaches, albeit while several ugly topics were discussed.

Mandel ends the piece by looking at this offseason’s recent transfer portal chaos and Karl Dorrell’s current task of rebuilding the Buffaloes.

Mostly, Colorado needs Dorrell to stick. He is the program’s fifth head coach since 2010, a cycle of hiring-and-firing that has sapped a once-proud program of its identity.

Let’s hope Dorrell can indeed prove himself worthy of sticking. His recent recruiting success has proved encouraging, but there’s still plenty of work needed for Colorado to rekindle its glory days.
